Philosophy of Education and related jobsFull-Time Tenure-Track Position in Cultural and Social Foundations of Education The Department of Education at Tufts University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of cultural and social foundations of education. Responsibilities include teaching and advising in the Department’s Masters and Ph.D. programs, conducting research in cultural and social foundations of education, active grant writing, and participation in departmental initiatives. Preferred area of scholarship is gender studies in one of the following disciplinary fields: history of education, philosophy of education, sociology of education, or anthropology and education. Department of Educational Studies: Assistant Professor, Qualitative Inquiry/Social Foundations of Education The Department of Educational Studies at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Qualitative Inquiry/Social Foundations of Education, starting in Fall 2012. This position will reside in the Programs in Educational Psychology, Research, and Foundations which offer graduate degrees in those three areas. Faculty members in the programs combine teaching and scholarship with involvement in the local community as well as work at the state and national levels. Required Qualifications: We invite applications from candidates with an earned doctorate in Social Foundations of Education (with a background in history, sociology, philosophy of education, cultural studies, political science, etc.) and significant training in and experience with qualitative research methods. We are open to candidates who have research interests in a range of substantive areas including class, race, gender, religion, globalization, and/or related topics, and their relationship to education and educational research. Candidates should possess an established publication record or show indication of considerable promise, and experience teaching or strong potential to teach at the university level. Candidates must have all requirements for the doctoral degree fulfilled by the start of the appointment. Desired Qualifications: The successful candidate will demonstrate a potential for excellence in teaching and research, as well as experience and/or interest in community-based civic engagement and participatory research. Preference will also be given to candidates with demonstrated experience addressing issues of educational equity, teaching experience in higher education, experience integrating technology into teaching, and a record of service to others. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly research and publication related to social foundations, leadership, and/or policy; advise graduate students; serve on and direct doctoral dissertations; and provide service to the department, college, university, state, and profession.
