Resolutions Committee Members are: Eduardo Duarte Jana Noel, and A. G. Rud (chair).

We, the resolutions committee, resolve to be light-hearted and pleasing, gracious and appreciative.

Whereas we have met many hours endeavoring to let light in for a reading and rereading, we hereby resolve that it is best to be brief and politic with the English language.

Hence, with Garrisonian generosity of spirit, though not pregnant with pausing and pacing, we resolve:

1) to remember the life of a recently departed colleague, Larry Althouse. Our thoughts are with his wife Linda, family and friends.

2) to honor George F. Kneller, who made substantial intellectual contributions to the Society, and has been extraordinarily generous to the Society over the years, and has continued this generosity by leaving the Society a substantial legacy in his will. We express deep and abiding gratitude for all these contributions that will enhance the long-term health of the Society for many years to come.

3) to express our gratitude for the exemplary service of our executive secretary Barbara Stengel, especially her helpful and thorough online communication, and her assistant Lisa Gorman. True to her Amish neighbors, Barbara is meticulous and thrifty.

4) to acknowledge the ability of Diane Beckett, business manager of Educational Theory and the Yearbook. Queen Mother from the land of corn and soy, she exhibits friendliness and great craft while also attending to the duty of registration.

5 To recognize Princess Diana Dummitt, managing editor of Educational Theory and the Yearbook, and her able colleague, Timothy Simpson, co-managing editor of the Yearbook and graduate assistant for Educational Theory, for demonstrating extraordinary patience, care, and attention toward these demanding tasks, while also cheerfully assisting in the duty of registration.

6) To thank the many committees, representatives and others of the Society, who have worked prodigiously and cooperatively to move PES forward in this new millenium. You may see their names and duties listed in the program. We commend them all for their manifold efforts, noting especially Paul Farber who is the outgoing member of the Executive Board.

7) To express gratitude to the Sponsors of the 56th Annual Meeting: the College of Human Resources and Education at Virginia Tech; OISE/The University of Toronto; the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Robert Nowlin and Jim Garrison. Their generosity in providing the financial and other resources necessary to mount and bring off our weekend of activities is much appreciated.

8) To especially acknowledge the members of the program committee for a conference that led down many avenues of philosophical reflection upon educational theory and practice, as the speakers wove a varied quilt of reason and imagination. We thank especially Lynda Stone, program chair, who, though well heeled in tar, still represents Cardinal virtue. We share in her grief for the fate of the perhaps over-achieving young men in sky-blue shorts. Elizabeth Becker, rebel without a clue, ably assisted in the large and great task of program building and presentation, while Stephanie Henly freely and enthusiastically gave her expert assistance in solving the mysteries of the Access database used in submissions.

9) To express exceptional gratitude to the members of the arrangements and hospitality committee, Dwight Boyd and Margaret Brockett, for their graciousness and good cheer in welcoming us all to this delightful city and its multitude of culinary and cultural pleasures. We also acknowledge the diligent efforts of James Cunningham on the Book Display.

10) To thank the Metropolitan Hotel for its comfortably appointed and "fully amenitized" rooms, and its management and workers, who sensed the importance and centrality of modern appliances to our group, such that microwaves appeared instantly, humidifiers were repaired effortlessly, and computers and printers functioned smoothly.

11) And finally, but with equal importance, to honor our President Jim Garrison for being a caring and reflective leader, a passionate philosopher, a consummate teacher, and friend to all. Jim is authentic in his many manifestations, and never once could he be called Hokie. We all know Jim as the Eros guy, and thus congratulate him on his stimulating, thought-revealing address, and on his upcoming border crossing and union.
