The Philosophy of Education Yearbook 2006 has adopted a new Web-based management system, Online Journal System (OJS), that allows authors to submit manuscripts through a secure Web site. OJS allows anyone registered as an author to submit manuscripts for formatting and editing by Yearbook staff and to review copyedited manuscripts in preparation for publication.

For the 2006 volume of the PES Yearbook, we are implementing this system for submissions. We ask that you visit the PES Yearbook 2006 OJS site to register as an author and submit your manuscript. A set of instructions for registering and submitting manuscripts is provided below. The stylesheet is available (in PDF format). See also a more extensive list of endnote samples.

  • Authors are responsible for securing permission for use of copyrighted materials or materials in private collections. (See entries under "Obtaining Permissions" and "Requesting Permissions" in the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed.)
  • Authors of accepted manuscripts are expected to submit, and pay any fees associated with the preparation of, high-resolution graphics or camera-ready copy of figures or illustrations and to bear the cost of any special typography.
  • The author name-date style of referencing is not consistent with the Yearbook format. Any manuscript accepted for publication in the Yearbook that uses an author-date style for citations will be returned to the author with the instruction that s/he convert the references to endnotes

Please contact Joice Atkinson if you experience difficulty with or have questions about the site:

Submitting a Manuscript to the PES Yearbook 2006 OJS site

1. To register as an author, visit http://ojs.ed.uiuc.edu/index.php/pes2006:
• At the “Login” window, select the “Not a user? Register with this site” tab.
• In the “Profile” window, you must enter (1) a username, (2) a password, (3) your first name, (4) your last name, and (5) your e-mail address.
• Please also enter the other information requested (mailing address, phone and fax, biographical information) to provide us with a complete record.
• Check the box marked “Register as Author: Able to submit items to this journal” and click on the “Submit” button.

2. Once registered as an author, log in with registered username and password, and select your role as “Author” under PES Yearbook 2006.

3. Start the submission process by clicking the link, “STEP ONE OF THE SUBMISSION PROCESS” (in the lower left of the widow).

4. Select the appropriate section for submission (if you were a presenter, select “Primary Paper”; if you were a respondent, select “Response Paper”). If you would like to include any comments regarding your submission, you may enter these in the “Comments for the Editor” box on this screen. Click “Save and Continue”.

5. Add your institutional affiliation information and biographical statement. Note that if there are changes to your contact information (address, institutional affiliation, etc.) during the production process, you can log in to OJS and edit this information in the User Profile at User Home, accessible by the horizontal menu bar at the top of the window.

6. Enter the Title of your manuscript, and provide an abstracta of 125 words or less in the space provided. Click “Save and Continue”.

7. Upload your submission by clicking the “Choose File” button, retrieving the file from your personal documents, and clicking “Upload”. Now a link to the uploaded file should appear in the area labeled “Submission File”. Once the file appears here (identified both by a new OJS filename and its original filename), click “Save and Continue”.

8. You may now upload any supplementary files (e.g., tables or artwork not embedded in the text file) using the same process. If you have no supplementary materials to send, please click “Save and Continue” to proceed to the final step of the submission process.

9. The next page shows the File Summary of your uploaded submission files. To submit to PES Yearbook 2006, click “Finish Submission”. Once the submission has been logged successfully, you will receive a submission acknowledgement by e-mail.
